Shopify or Etsy

Should You Sell on Shopify or Etsy?

When it comes to selling online, there are a lot of options out there. Two of the most popular platforms are Shopify and Etsy. So, which one should you choose? In this blog post, we will compare and contrast these two platforms and help you decide which is the best fit for your business.

Shopify is a great option for businesses that are looking for a more customizable and professional platform. With Shopify, you have the ability to create a completely branded online store. You can also take advantage of Shopify’s powerful eCommerce features, such as abandoned cart recovery and automatic shipping rates.

Etsy, on the other hand, is perfect for businesses that sell handmade or vintage items. Etsy has a huge community of shoppers that are looking for unique items. And, because Etsy specializes in these types of products, they offer a number of features and tools to help you succeed, such as promotion and marketing tools.

One key difference between the two platforms is who is in control. If you use Shopify, you own your email list, which is one of your business’s most valuable assets. With Etsy, your customer list is going to be owned by the Etsy platform. Another difference is that Etsy is going to charge you listing fees for your products. Shopify does not charge listing fees.

Lastly, a very important difference is that Etsy is showing your products to website visitors along with all your competitors’ products. You have to figure out how to stand out, which can be very time-consuming and draining. With a Shopify store, all eyes are on your products, no one else’s.

This is why I recommend Shopify over Etsy. Etsy can be a great additional source of revenue for your business, but you should not be driving traffic to your Etsy store and using Etsy as the main way to sell your products. Instead, drive traffic to your Shopify store where you are in control and have the ability to actually grow your business.
